Sanctuary Residents
Our sanctuary reptiles are ones who live with us long term. They may be ones who are ambassadors in training, in need of life long medical care, or simply just don’t do well in a public setting.
Godzilla-Green Iguana
Iguana’s are known to have sassy personalities and Godzilla definitely fits the bill. It took some time for him to start to trust us when he first arrived. We took our time, letting Godzilla choose to come out of his tank when he was ready. Eventually, he started to come out to say hi and let us handle him. His favorite snacks include blueberries, collard greens, and sweet potato. He loves when we mist down his tank. He runs over pushing his face in the sprayer, then goes to dry off in his basking area. He’s our sour patch kid, but we love him.
Alexis-Argentine Black and White Tegu
Alexis came to us alongside another tegu, David, and quickly made it clear she has a personality all her own. She’s confident, opinionated, and absolutely keeps us on our toes.
Feeding time is serious business in Alexis’ world, and she’s not shy about expressing her excitement. One rule everyone learns quickly: never wake her from her beauty sleep. She values her naps and prefers to wake up on her own terms.
One of her favorite routines happens when we get home from work. The moment she hears us, she starts bustling around her enclosure until she’s picked up and carried around the house for her daily “inspection tour.” Once she’s satisfied and dinner preparations begin, she willingly heads back to her space like the queen she is.
She may be sassy, but Alexis is incredibly intelligent, full of character, and an absolute joy to care for.
Her temperament with strangers is still unknown, so she may or may not become a public-facing ambassador. Alexis will need a much larger permanent enclosure in the future, and we’re actively planning for it. She’s affectionate, stubborn, dramatic, and endlessly entertaining.
